Homoeopathic Medicine
What Is Homoeopathy?
Classical homoeopathy is a system of natural medicine that can be used to treat a wide range of physical, mental and emotional conditions from common everyday complaints to very serious illnesses. Homoeopathy is also used for prevention—to help keep you as well and as healthy as possible. Refined in the late 18th century by the German physician and researcher Samuel Hahnemann, homoeopathic medicine has established itself as a viable and commonplace alternative to “western medicine”. In various parts of the world, including England, parts of Europe and in India, homoeopathic hospitals successfully treat patients for all types of diseases. And of course many people here in Australia enjoy the health benefits that classical homoeopathy provides.
Why Should I Consider Homoeopathy?
Classical homoeopathy is a safe and effective form of treatment using natural medicines. Homoeopathy should be considered by anyone who has not been completely satisfied with their experiences with “western” medicine and is seeking an alternative to traditional drug-based dispensing. Like other forms of natural therapies, homoeopathy takes a holistic approach to treating illness: practitioners take into account the totality of your symptoms as well as other factors in order to understand the underlying reason for your current condition. It is in addressing these underlying conditions and then using appropriate natural medicines accordingly, where homoeopathy excels.
In fact, there are many situations in which classical homoeopathy provides a more effective treatment than herbal medicine and other naturopathic remedies. For example, acute conditions such as colds, flu, fever, diarrhoea, headaches, and hay fever often respond more quickly to homoeopathic medicine. Mental and emotional conditions such as depression or anxiety are also far better treated with homoeopathy. There are, of course, certain conditions for which a naturopathic approach may be more appropriate. If this is the case, herbal and nutritional medicine will be prescribed for you.

Homoeopathic Consultations
Initial Consultation
Your initial appointment at the clinic will usually take at least an hour. These long consultations are necessary for us to fully understand your condition. Because classical homoeopathic medicine is so specific and takes a holistic approach, many details are required by the homoeopath to ascertain the most appropriate course of treatment. If you have any medical tests, scans, x-rays or other results, you will need to bring these with you to your initial consultation.
During the consultation you may be asked to describe your condition at length as well as talk about other aspects of your health. If you are unfamiliar with homoeopathy, you may find some of the questions unusual or even irrelevant. It is important to remember though that any questions asked by the homoeopath are for the purpose of understanding your health more clearly in order to be able to prescribe the best medicine for you.
When appropriate, we may refer you for further medical investigations. In addition, the homoeopath may also need to talk to your medical practitioner or specialist in order to coordinate your homoeopathic treatment with any other treatments or medications you may also be taking.
What To Expect From Your Initial Consultation
• Your health concerns will be discussed in detail
•Any nutritional supplements, herbal medications or other remedies you are currently taking will be assessed
• Because good nutrition is fundamental to health, a diet diary that you have filled out in advance will be discussed and analysed. If this analysis cannot be completed during your initial consultation, a follow-up phone conversation will be arranged at no additional cost to you
• A homoeopathic assessment of your health will be made
• Homoeopathic medicine will be prescribed
• Medical tests may be suggested to ensure a holistic approach to your treatment
• Your medical practitioner or specialist may be contacted, if appropriate
• A follow-up phone call will be made to check on your progress and make any adjustments to the dosage of your medicine
Acute Consultations
For simple, acute or uncomplicated conditions such as a cold, headache or acute pain, a short consultation is appropriate and you will not require an initial long appointment. To find out whether or not your condition can be properly addressed in a short consultation, please speak directly with the homoeopath.
Follow-Up Consultations
It is vital in homoeopathic prescribing to continuously monitor your progress—as your symptoms change, your medicine often needs to change as well.
During a follow-up consultation, the homoeopath will assess the progress of your treatment. New medicine may be prescribed or the same medicine may be repeated. This regular monitoring and the careful adjustment of medicinal dosages ensure that treatments are safe and result in the best possible outcome for you.
Follow-up consultations may take either 30 or 60 minutes, depending upon your condition.
